In his New Year's address, Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner calls on Berliners to work together to make the city a better place.
"I would like to encourage us all today to do what will move us and our city forward: to pitch in. To have courage. Courage to embrace change. To strengthen our cohesion. And to stand up for our democracy," says Wegner.
"Our Berlin is the city of freedom - and the city of opportunities. We want to and must utilise these opportunities together. That is my wish for the new year." Many may be looking to 2025 with concern, but he hopes for a city in which Berliners say: "Let's treat each other with respect this year. Let's work to make our city a little better every day. Let's approach each other and break new ground."
Wegner emphasises: "We all have it in our hands. Let's believe in our city with confidence and optimism. It's up to us.". The Mayor's New Year's address will be broadcast in full on rbb on Wednesday, 1 January at 7.55 pm.
